Rough Night for the Reds
Tough game, fellow Reds fans. Our beloved Cincinnati Reds faced off against the Chicago Cubs and came up short, with a final score of 4-2 in favor of the Cubs. It wasn't our night, but there were a few moments worth noting, so let's dive into what happened.A Tough Start
The game kicked off with the Cubs taking a quick lead in the top of the 1st inning, scoring three runs thanks to a double from Ian Happ that brought Mike Tauchman, Seiya Suzuki, and Christopher Morel across the plate. Our boys couldn't answer back in the bottom of the inning, with Stuart Fairchild, Elly De La Cruz, and Jeimer Candelario all going down without putting up runs.
The Battle Continues
The Cubs extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the 2nd, but our Reds showed signs of life in the 3rd. Luke Maile smashed a homer to left, putting us on the board. Unfortunately, that momentum was hard to maintain, despite some solid hits and opportunities in later innings, including a run driven in by Santiago Espinal in the 7th to bring our score up to 2. Our pitching held the Cubs in check for the most part after their early lead, but the offense just couldn't close the gap.Late Game Efforts Fall Short
Going into the later innings, we saw some defensive adjustments with Blake Dunn, Tyler Stephenson, and Will Benson coming in, but the Cubs' pitching was just too much for our lineup. Mark Leiter Jr. and Héctor Neris kept our bats quiet, sealing the game for the Cubs. Despite some solid contact and getting on base, our Reds just couldn't spark the rally we were hoping for.The Cubs took this one with a final score of 4-2.
