Tough Loss in Tampa: Angels Narrowly Miss Victory
Hey fellow Angels fans,
A Rocky Start
The game didn't kick off in our favor, as the top of the 1st saw Anthony Rendon, Mike Trout, and Taylor Ward getting retired in quick succession. Then, in the bottom of the 1st, the Rays managed to put two runs on the board – making us chase from the get-go. A walk to Richie Palacios followed by an Amed Rosario triple and a Harold Ramirez sacrifice fly gave the Rays an early 2-0 lead.
Angels Fight Back... Sort Of
Our guys tried to respond in the following innings with Matt Thaiss working a walk and Luis Rengifo singling, but the Rays' defense held tight. The game progressed with a lot of our guys struggling to make significant impacts; meanwhile, our pitching did what they could to keep us in the game. Mike Trout gave us a glimmer of hope in the 6th with his base-stealing prowess, eventually scoring off a Miguel Sanó sac fly. This made it 2-1, Rays still leading.A Frustrating Finish
Despite several opportunities, including Sanó reaching on an infield single in the top of the 9th and Jo Adell coming in as a pinch runner, we just couldn't manage to push across that tying run. Our last hope in the 9th, Brandon Drury coming in to hit for Nolan Schanuel, ended in a fielder's choice that saw Rengifo out at second. Ball game. The Rays' defense and pitching just outmatched us this time.Reflection
It was one of those games where you feel the win was within reach, yet it slipped away.
