Tense Start but Uneventful First Inning
The game began with some solid defense on both sides. The Marlins' Connor Norby, Jesús Sánchez, and Jake Burger all failed to put the ball in play effectively, while our boys had a tough time converting on opportunities, even after Mark Canha's heroics on the basepaths.
Marlins Strike First in the Second
Griffin Conine dealt the first major blow with a 401-foot homer, bringing Jonah Bride along to make it 2-0. We had small windows of opportunity, especially with Jerar Encarnación grabbing a nice infield single, but we couldn't capitalize.
Grinding Back in the 5th and 6th
Finally, in the 5th, Mike Yastrzemski helped push Encarnación across the plate, and we cut the lead to 2-1. Then, in the 6th, Tyler Fitzgerald’s clutch single brought Matt Chapman home, making it 3-2. The game felt alive again!
Marlins Extend Their Lead
Despite our best efforts, the Marlins extended their lead to 4-2 in the 7th, capitalizing on a stolen base and a couple of groundouts. It was tough seeing us fall behind again, but it wasn’t over yet!Conforto Shines Bright in the 8th
Michael Conforto electrified the crowd with a massive 418-foot home run to center. That brought us closer at 4-3.
Hopes Dashed in a Dramatic 9th
In a nail-biting finale, Camilo Doval confidently shut down the Marlins' offense in the top of the inning. We stepped up to the plate one last time, but Patrick Bailey, Encarnación, and LaMonte Wade Jr., pinch-hitting for Brett Wisely, couldn't find the breakthrough we needed. So, we wrapped up a tense game with the Marlins taking it 4-3.
Though it ended in a loss, there were plenty of positive moments in today’s game. Let's keep the faith, Giants fans!
