Promising Start, Painful Finish
Well, Mariners fans, it's a tough one to swallow. The start was promising, with J.P. Crawford walking, followed by Randy Arozarena also drawing a walk. A smooth single from Rowdy Tellez saw Crawford cross home plate to give us a lead. Things looked even better when Dylan Moore launched a solo homer over 413 feet into center field in the second inning. At the end of the 2nd, we were leading 2-0!
The Astros Fight Back
Unfortunately, the Astros had their moments too. A rocky third inning saw Jeremy Peña take a hit-by-pitch and a throwing error allowed Isaac Paredes to get on base as Smith scored. A sacrifice fly from Jose Altuve evened the score at 2-2. The bottom of the 4th turned the tide heavily against us, with Peña hitting a crushing triple that brought two runs in, making it 5-2.
When It Rains, It Pours
As much as I hate to recount it, Jose Altuve haunted us further by launching a pair of homers over two innings. Add another RBI to Victor Caratini's infield single, and suddenly the scoreboard wasn’t our friend, leaving us trailing 9-2 going into the later innings. Any Mariners' hopes of a late comeback were dashed as our bats just couldn't get going against the Astros pitching in the final innings.
Looking Forward
Despite the outcome, I'll always back the M's. We saw glimpses of promise—like that early lead—but unfortunately, the Astros just outpaced us today. It's time to reset and charge back. Go Mariners!
