We didn't have to wait long for the action. In the bottom of the first inning, Bryan Reynolds set the tone with a single to left field. When Spencer Horwitz doubled to center, driving in Reynolds, the crowd went wild, and the Pirates took an early lead at 1-0. What a way to kickstart the game!
Brewers Battle Back
Christian Yelich's speed put pressure on our defense in the top of the second, and it paid off for the Brewers when Caleb Durbin hit a single to center, bringing Yelich home to tie the game at 1-1. But our Pirates didn't lose heart.
Cruz Delivers the Game-Winner!
With the score tied at 1-1 throughout much of the game, it was Oneil Cruz who stepped up to make the difference. In the bottom of the seventh, after Isiah Kiner-Falefa advanced to second on a balk, Cruz hit a booming triple to center field, bringing Kiner-Falefa home for the go-ahead run! With that hit, the Pirates secured a 2-1 lead.
Closing Out the Victory
Our bullpen was rock solid. David Bednar came in to close out the ninth inning, expertly handling some tense moments. After Durbin was hit by a pitch, our defense stayed strong, culminating in a critical double play initiated by our shortstop. Game over! The Pirates won 2-1!
