A Pitcher's Duel in the Big Apple
What a nail-biter this game turned out to be! The Mets managed to scrape through with a 2-1 victory over the Nationals in an extra-innings thriller!
Early Innings Struggles
Offensively, the game had a slow start for both teams. We had a few close calls in the 4th inning with Pete Alonso and Brandon Nimmo making it to base, but Mark Vientos couldn't bring them home. The Nationals broke the deadlock in the top of the 4th when Jose Tena singled to left, bringing in Juan Yepez for the first run. Mets down 0-1.
Strong Pitching Keeps Us in the Game
Our pitching staff kept us alive throughout the game. Hats off to the entire bullpen including Buttó and Díaz, who struck out the side in the 8th inning. The Nationals couldn't put another run on the board, which kept our hopes alive!
Late Inning Drama
It wasn't until the bottom of the 8th that we finally saw some offensive fireworks! Tyrone Taylor doubled to get on base and Jose Iglesias brought him home with an infield single to tie the game 1-1. The excitement was palpable at Citi Field!
Extra-Inning Magic
The 10th inning brought the drama we were all waiting for! Harrison Bader ran for Vientos, and Tyrone Taylor got intentionally walked. With Francisco Alvarez flying out, it was Starling Marte who came in clutch, singling to left and bringing Bader home for the walk-off run! Final score: Mets 2, Nationals 1!
Congrats to the team for pulling through in a tight game, showing resilience and some late-game heroics. Let’s keep this momentum going, Mets fans! LGM!
